Super Four Lineup Confirmed as Asia Cup Group Stage Concludes
DUBAI – The group stage of the Asia Cup 2025 has drawn to a close, with India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh sealing their spots in the Super Four stage. The tournament, which has delivered a mix of dominant victories and nail-biting finishes, is now set for a thrilling final round-robin series that will decide the two finalists.
Group A: India and Pakistan Dominant
India and Pakistan showcased their class, comfortably qualifying from Group A. India’s journey began with a dominant nine-wicket victory over the United Arab Emirates, followed by a commanding seven-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan. Their batting and bowling units have been in sync, with Suryakumar Yadav leading the charge with the bat and spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel proving to be a potent force.
Pakistan’s campaign was a rollercoaster. They started with a strong win over Oman, but were then outplayed by India. They secured their Super Four spot with a crucial 41-run win over the UAE, where key contributions from Fakhar Zaman and a brilliant cameo from Shaheen Shah Afridi with the bat, and then with the ball, were instrumental.
The UAE managed a morale-boosting win over Oman, but their two losses meant they were eliminated. Oman, despite some flashes of brilliance, finished at the bottom of the table without a win.
Group B: Sri Lanka Unbeaten, Bangladesh Sneak In
Sri Lanka’s performance in Group B was flawless. They topped the group with three wins from three matches. They started with a tight six-wicket win over Bangladesh, then defeated Hong Kong by four wickets, and finally secured their place with a six-wicket victory against Afghanistan. Their consistency has been a key factor in their success.
Bangladesh’s journey to the Super Four was hard-fought. After their loss to Sri Lanka, they bounced back with a convincing seven-wicket win over Hong Kong. Their crucial win came against Afghanistan in a nail-biting eight-run victory, which ultimately proved to be enough for them to qualify.
Afghanistan’s campaign began promisingly with a huge 94-run win over Hong Kong, but consecutive losses to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka meant they were eliminated despite having a very healthy net run rate. Hong Kong finished their tournament without a win.
The stage is now set for the Super Four, where the four qualified teams will play each other once in a round-robin format. The top two teams from this stage will then compete in the final on September 28.
