AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND (January 13, 2026) — A major police operation unfolded at the Hells Angels headquarters in Mt Eden this morning after a vehicle sparked a city-wide response by failing to stop for officers in the Auckland CBD.

The incident began around 9:30 AM on Anzac Avenue, triggering a high-stakes tracking operation involving ground units, K9 teams, and aerial surveillance.

📍 The CBD Evasion

The chaos started during proactive police patrols in the city centre. When officers signalled a vehicle to pull over on Anzac Ave, the driver refused to stop and sped away.

  • No Pursuit Policy: In line with safety protocols, police units did not engage in a high-speed chase. Instead, they relied on Auckland’s extensive camera network to monitor the vehicle’s movements.
  • Vehicle Abandoned: Camera operators quickly located the vehicle, which had been abandoned on Edenvale Park Road.

🐕 Dog Units Lead the Way

With the vehicle located, the Police “Delta” dog patrol units were deployed to the scene. The highly trained tracking dogs successfully followed the scent of the occupants from the abandoned car directly to an address on Brentwood Road—the well-known compound of the Hells Angels motorcycle club.

🚁 “Eagle” Overhead as Compound Surrounded

Residents in Mt Eden reported a massive police presence as the operation shifted to the gang headquarters.

  • Heavy Presence: Multiple marked and unmarked patrol cars cordoned off the area around Brentwood Road.
  • Aerial Support: The Police Eagle helicopter circled overhead for an extended period, providing tactical oversight as officers moved in on the property.
  • Current Status: Police have confirmed the operation resulted from the earlier failure-to-stop incident, though they have not yet confirmed how many individuals were taken into custody or if any charges have been laid.
