Teenager Arrested After “Frightening” Bus Attack in Massey

AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND (Thursday, January 29, 2026) — A 14-year-old has been arrested and charged following a violent incident on a public bus in the West Auckland suburb of Massey yesterday evening.

Police were called to Colwill Road around 7:00 PM on Wednesday after reports surfaced that a bus driver had been injured. The attack has sent shockwaves through the local community and highlighted ongoing concerns regarding the safety of public transport workers.

Detective Senior Sergeant Ryan Bunting confirmed that when officers arrived at the scene, the alleged offender had already fled on foot.

  • The Victim: The bus driver was transported to the hospital in a moderate condition. Police described the event as a “frightening ordeal” and are providing ongoing support to the driver.
  • The Arrest: Following a rapid investigation, police apprehended a 14-year-old male on Thursday morning.
  • Charges: The teenager appeared in the Waitākere Youth Court today, facing serious charges:
    • Wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
    • Assault.
    • Possession of an offensive weapon.

⚖️ “Any Violent Behaviour Will Not Be Accepted”

Detective Bunting issued a stern reminder regarding public safety and the consequences of violent acts.

“People have a right to be safe going about their business, without having to be subjected to any type of violence. Any violent behaviour will not be accepted and those engaging in it will be held to account.”

The 14-year-old is scheduled to reappear in the Waitākere Youth Court on February 17, 2026.
