Speaking at a Thai Pongal festival in Velanai, Jaffna, yesterday, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake delivered a landmark speech focusing on the decline of racism under his administration.

  • Unity Over Racism: The President claimed that the period following the current government’s ascent has seen the lowest incidence of communal conflict and the weakening of movements that thrive on ethnic division.

Moving from cultural celebrations to economic milestones, President Dissanayake officially added the 20MW ‘Mannar Windscape’ wind power plant to the national grid yesterday morning.

  • First of its Kind: This project marks the first time in Sri Lankan history that 5MW turbines—the largest ever installed in the country—have been utilized.
  • Domestic Success: The project was completed by a fully local private company, aligning with the government’s goal of achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050.
