THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, INDIA (December 31, 2025) – The Indian Women’s cricket team has ended 2025 on a high, securing a dominant 5-0 series sweep over Sri Lanka. In the fifth and final T20 International held last night at the Greenfield International Stadium, India fended off a spirited chase from the visitors to win by 15 runs.

Despite the series already being decided, the final match proved to be a nail-biter. India, led by a captain’s knock from Harmanpreet Kaur, posted a competitive total before their bowlers held their nerve to restrict Chamari Athapaththu’s side.

🏆 The 5th T20I: Match Summary

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field, a decision that initially paid dividends as India’s top order stuttered.

  • India’s Innings: After a shaky start that saw India reduced to 77/5, Harmanpreet Kaur played a rescue act, smashing 68 off 43 balls (including 9 fours and a six). A late-over blitz from Arundhati Reddy (27* off 11 balls) pushed India to 175/7 in their 20 overs.
  • Sri Lanka’s Chase: Chasing 176, Sri Lanka lost captain Athapaththu early but stayed in the hunt thanks to fighting half-centuries from Hasini Perera (65) and Imesha Dulani (50). However, the asking rate eventually climbed too high, and they finished on 160/7.
  • Historic Milestone: Indian spinner Deepti Sharma made history during the match, taking her 152nd T20I wicket to become the all-time leading wicket-taker in Women’s T20 Internationals, surpassing Australia’s Megan Schutt.
