WHANGAMATA, COROMANDEL — Emergency services have responded to a helicopter crash at the Whangamata Airfield this afternoon. In what is being described as a fortunate outcome, initial reports from the scene indicate that despite the crash, no one has been injured.

Police were notified of the incident shortly after 2:00 PM on Saturday.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the aircraft went down within the airfield perimeter. While the cause of the crash is not yet known, the focus remains on the safety of the pilot and any passengers.
