WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND (Tuesday, January 27, 2026) — The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will officially announce whether its national team will participate in the upcoming 2026 T20 World Cup by February 2nd.

The announcement comes directly from PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who took to his ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account to provide an update following high-level discussions with the Pakistani government.

🏛️ Prime Ministerial Consultation

The uncertainty surrounding Pakistan’s involvement has escalated to the highest levels of government.

  • The Meeting: Chairman Naqvi met with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif yesterday (January 26) to brief him on the current geopolitical and security landscape.
  • All Options on the Table: According to Naqvi, the Prime Minister advised the board to keep “all options open” while attempting to resolve the ongoing issues.
  • Government Call: Selection Committee Head Aaqib Javed reiterated that while the athletes are ready, the final decision rests solely with the Pakistani government.

🏏 The 15-Man Squad “In Limbo”

Interestingly, Pakistan officially announced its 15-member squad for the tournament just two days ago (January 25). However, the announcement notably lacked a definitive confirmation of participation.

The squad was released to meet technical deadlines, but the PCB has yet to give the International Cricket Council (ICC) a green light, pending government approval.

⚠️ Why the Uncertainty?

The friction stems from recent developments involving Bangladesh and the tournament hosts, India.

  1. The Bangladesh Factor: Bangladesh recently pulled out of the tournament after refusing to travel to India due to security and political concerns.
  2. The Ripple Effect: Following Bangladesh’s withdrawal, Pakistan began re-evaluating its own travel to India. The PCB is reportedly seeking clarity on whether the tournament can remain viable or if a “neutral venue” model (similar to previous Asia Cups) is possible.
