Bus Collision in New Lynn: Power Pole Toppled and Building Damaged

AUCKLAND, NZ (Wednesday, January 14, 2026) — Emergency services are currently at the scene of a significant bus crash at the intersection of Neville Street and Portage Road in New Lynn. An Auckland Transport (AT) bus veered off the road at approximately 4:30 pm today, striking a power pole and causing it to lean dangerously against a local building.


🏗️ Damage at the Scene

The impact of the crash caused substantial damage to the immediate infrastructure and a well-known local business.

  • Green Bay Auctions: The bus caused damage to the Green Bay Auctions building. A spokesperson for the business confirmed they would “be needing a new sign” but expressed relief that no one was seriously injured.
  • Infrastructure: In addition to the power pole being brought down, a traffic light pole was also ripped from the ground by the force of the collision.
  • Safety Hazard: Lines contractors have been deployed to the site as the power pole is currently leaning against a vacant building, creating a safety risk for the surrounding area.

Auckland Transport has confirmed that the bus was not in service at the time of the accident.
