Sri Lanka Post Smashes 2025 Revenue Target with Rs. 13.1 Billion; Major Recruitment Drive Underway

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA (January 11, 2026) — Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara has announced that Sri Lanka Post successfully surpassed the annual revenue target set by the General Treasury for the year 2025. The department generated an impressive Rs. 13,100 million (Rs. 13.1 billion) in revenue, exceeding expectations and marking a period of significant growth and modernization.

Addressing the media, the Postmaster General highlighted that this financial success has been accompanied by a series of infrastructure developments, including the laying of foundation stones for new post offices and the official opening of several others across the island.


🚀 Strengthening the Workforce: Record Confirmations

In addition to financial gains, 2025 was a landmark year for human resources within the department, seeing the first major wave of permanent appointments in several years.

  • Sub-Postmasters: In June 2025, the Ministry of Health and Media granted permanent appointments to 378 Sub-Postmasters. This marked the first such confirmation for this cadre since 2020.
  • Mail Assistants: In September 2025, the department confirmed the appointments of 1,000 Mail Assistants, the first major confirmation for this group since 2022.
  • Service Expansion: The department is actively expanding its operational capacity to meet the growing demands of modern postal and logistical services.

📅 Upcoming Recruitments for 2026

The Postmaster General also shared positive news for job seekers in the public sector. The department is set to further bolster its ranks in the coming weeks.

  • New Hires: Plans are in place to recruit 600 Postal Service Officers under the open recruitment category.
  • Timeline: These recruitments are scheduled to be finalized and implemented by February 2026.
