MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA (January 10, 2026) — A newly released video recorded on the cellphone of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent has provided a raw, firsthand look at the moments leading up to the fatal shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis.

The footage, captured by Agent Jonathan Ross and recently obtained by CNN, has quickly become a focal point in a heated national debate over law enforcement conduct and self-defense. While critics previously questioned the necessity of the force used, federal officials and political figures are now pointing to this video as evidence that the officer’s life was in immediate danger.

📹 The Video: “Show Your Face”

The recording begins with Agent Ross walking toward a burgundy SUV driven by Renee Good, which was stopped perpendicular to the street, blocking traffic. The footage captures a high-intensity verbal confrontation between the agent and the vehicle’s occupants.

  • The Interaction: As Ross approaches the driver’s side, Good is seen looking directly at him, saying, “That’s fine dude. I’m not mad at you.” Ross remains silent, holding his phone up to record the encounter.
  • The Escalation: The victim’s wife, Becca Good, who was outside the vehicle, is seen confronting Ross with her own phone, telling him to “show your face” and taunting him, saying, “I say go get yourself some lunch, big boy.”
  • The Shooting: After another officer commands Good to “get out of the f*ing car,” the SUV is seen reversing and then lurching forward. Ross is heard shouting “Whoa!” before three rapid gunshots ring out.

⚖️ Self-Defense vs. Excessive Force

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has stood firmly behind Agent Ross, asserting that the footage confirms their initial reports of the incident.

“This footage corroborates what DHS has stated all along—that this individual weaponized her vehicle in an attempt to kill or cause bodily harm to federal law enforcement,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “The officer was in fear of his own life.”

Vice President JD Vance also weighed in on social media, sharing the video and stating: “The reality is that his life was endangered and he fired in self-defense.”

However, the video remains subject to interpretation. While bystander footage suggests the SUV may have clipped Ross as it moved, the agent’s own camera jerks toward the sky during the shots, leaving the exact moment of impact—and whether Ross had a clear path of retreat—to be debated by investigators and the public.

📉 Impact and Aftermath

Following the shots, the video captures the SUV barreling forward and crashing into a parked car. A voice on the recording is heard uttering a profanity as the vehicle comes to a halt.

Renee Good, a mother whose family photos from 2017 have circulated online following her death, died at the scene. Her family maintains that she was not a threat and that the use of lethal force was an extreme overreaction to a traffic obstruction and verbal dispute.
