🎵 A Legacy Beyond Measure

Affectionately known as the “Nightingale of Sri Lanka,” Latha Walpola was the undisputed queen of playback singing. Her career, which began in the late 1940s, spanned nearly 600 films and an estimated 6,750 songs. From her early duets with her late husband, Dharmadasa Walpola, to her solo masterpieces, her voice became the soundtrack of the Sri Lankan identity.

Her passing marks the end of a golden era in the local arts, leaving a void that fellow musicians say can never truly be filled.
