COLOMBO – As Christians across the globe and in Sri Lanka celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ today (December 25), President Anura Kumara Dissanayake extended his warmest wishes, highlighting the core values of the season as a beacon for national recovery.In an official message released for Christmas, the President noted that the true essence of the festival—love, peace, joy, sharing, and sacrifice—is more relevant than ever as the country navigates a challenging period.A Message of Resilience and UnityThe President acknowledged that this year’s celebrations come at a critical time for Sri Lankans, who are currently rebuilding with determination following a series of painful natural disasters.
“The true meaning of Christmas lies in brotherly support for those who are suffering and a commitment to the liberation of all mankind,” the President stated. He emphasized that the noble human quality of standing by one’s neighbor during times of distress—a central teaching in Christianity and all major religions—was vividly demonstrated by the Sri Lankan people during the recent calamities.
Walking the Path of Compassion
Reflecting on the recent spirit of the nation, the President remarked that the sight of citizens reaching out to help their fellow brothers and sisters in unfamiliar and difficult terrains was a living testament to the Christmas spirit.
