Colombo, September 15, 2025 – Sri Lanka’s tourism industry has shown a remarkable rebound, with over 52,000 tourists arriving in the country during the first half of September. This represents a substantial increase compared to the same period last year and signals renewed confidence in Sri Lanka as a preferred travel destination.

The surge in arrivals is largely attributed to visitors from India, which continues to be the dominant source market for the country’s tourism sector. Industry analysts note that Indian tourists account for a significant proportion of short-stay visitors, particularly during festival periods and holiday seasons.

Officials from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) expressed optimism about the upward trend, highlighting the impact of targeted marketing campaigns and improved connectivity with key international markets.

“We are pleased to see continued growth in tourist arrivals, especially from India, which remains a vital market for Sri Lanka,” said a spokesperson from the SLTDA.

Tourism stakeholders also point to the country’s diverse attractions—from pristine beaches and historical sites to wildlife reserves and cultural experiences—as a major factor in attracting visitors. Hoteliers and tour operators have reported high occupancy rates and increased demand for guided tours in popular destinations such as Colombo, Kandy, Galle, and the southern coast.

Despite global uncertainties affecting international travel, Sri Lanka’s tourism sector appears resilient, benefiting from competitive pricing, improved infrastructure, and renewed traveler confidence. Authorities anticipate that continued growth in arrivals could provide a significant boost to the economy, particularly in hospitality, transport, and related services.

As Sri Lanka continues to welcome tourists this month, industry leaders are calling for sustained promotional efforts, enhanced visitor services, and measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all travelers.
