World Risks: Country Conflicts Now Top Concern for 2025
Davos, Switzerland – A new report called “Global Risks 2025: A world of growing divisions” shares a serious finding. Conflicts between countries are now the top danger for the year ahead. Wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, along with other problems in different areas, have made this risk jump up. Last year, it was eighth. Now it is first. This shows that countries are more divided. It also means there is a higher chance of big conflicts.
The report says that almost a quarter of people asked believe that conflicts between countries are the biggest threat for 2025. These conflicts include proxy wars (when big countries fight through smaller ones), civil wars, government takeovers, and terrorism. This worrying change shows that old ways of solving problems between countries are not working as well. It also means that military fights, both direct and indirect, are happening more often.
Another big risk is “Geoeconomic confrontation,” which is related to the first one. It is the third biggest worry. This means countries are using money and trade as weapons. For example, they might put limits on trade, add extra taxes on goods, or stop investments. These actions can cause big problems for world trade, money markets, and how goods are made and moved. This can hurt economies around the world.
The report also points out that these conflicts and money problems are made worse by problems within societies. These include unfairness and people being very divided. Also, false information and lies make these problems bigger. This makes it harder for countries to agree and work together on shared world problems.
The world is facing more divisions and less predictable times. So, good talks between countries, ways to solve conflicts, and a stronger desire to work together are very important. If these growing problems are not fixed, the future could be more unstable. The world might also become less rich.
