Colombo, Sri Lanka – President Anura Kumara Dissanayake started the “Praja Shakthi” national program on Friday. This is a big step to end poverty in Sri Lanka’s villages. The President spoke at Temple Trees in Colombo. He said it is important that the country’s economic growth helps people in rural areas. He added that if growth does not reach these people, it is not truly helpful.

The “Praja Shakthi” program will help local communities in many ways. It will give them tools, money, and chances to escape poverty. This may include training people for new jobs. It could also give small loans to businesses in villages. It will also help small and medium-sized businesses grow. Better roads and services will connect these communities to markets.

The President is focusing on rural areas. This shows that the government wants to help all people, not just those in cities. This program will likely focus on ways for people to earn a living that last. It will also support farming and local industries. This will bring lasting economic stability to areas with poverty.

Sri Lanka’s economy has improved since the 2022 crisis. Prices are lower, and the currency is stable. However, many people, especially in villages, still face hardships. The number of poor people doubled during the crisis. It is still higher than before 2020. Almost a quarter of people still live below the national poverty line. “Praja Shakthi” aims to directly help with this problem.

If “Praja Shakthi” works, it will make Sri Lanka more fair and strong. By helping people in villages, the government wants to end poverty. It also wants to use the skills and strengths of these areas. This will help the country as a whole grow. People will watch how this program works to see how well Sri Lanka is recovering.
